Forming An Opportunity

Forming an Opportunity

I believe there is an unmet need for healthy prep-meals. More than ever before we care more about how we look and how we feel, especially because of the big influence social media has on people in today's day, many people want to lose weight, gain weight, build muscle, be healthy... However, in order to be fit it requires a considerable amount of discipline, and the base of that discipline is the food you put in your body. Many personal trainers claim that the diet covers about 65% to 75% of a fitness goal, and that’s where there is an unmet need. With our rush lifestyle, is hard to measure the portions and count calories in order to eat properly. This unmet need will cover all ages, genders and personalities. There are some entrepreneurs who have similar business idea, but they are far from fulfilling all the needs out there, there is still a lot of demand, especially in college towns such as Gainesville.

Reflection: It seems that a pattern is follows throught, all three participants complained about lack of time and bad eating habits, it would be even hard to write a reflection for each individual because their answers was very similar even though they weren’t exactly the same audience. The experience proved that there is an unmet need and that the market for this need can be quite large. One thing that stood out for me is that both students are aware that their eating behaviors are holding them back, but they seem to be powerless about that issue.

Summary: I strongly believe that the opportunity is still out there; in fact, I think the opportunity grew even stronger since I had an 100% need feedback. The feedback I got from the interviewers helped me expanding the idea and understanding better their actual needs. For example, the Dental School student, she eats out and drink coffee everyday and is probably spending lots of money on food. I believe that an entrepreneur could fix this problem because if you have a nice demand you can beat some restaurants price and serve quality food at the same time. I know now that getting out there to grasp information straight from the customers is a major part of creating a successful business.

  1. Dude, literally right before I started doing these peer reviews I was trying to schedule out my meal prep for the week and researching recipes that I could do that are low carb but still filling. So I definitely agree that this problem exists, I just experienced it a few minutes ago.

  2. Hi Valtenius,
I very much related to this topic. I like to stay fit and eat healthy. I do well with breakfasts at home, and I meal prep for the entire workweek which helps keep me on track. But, dinners aren't always as healthy as they should be because of time constraints. Your potential solution reminded me of already existing businesses out there like Hello Fresh and Blue Apron. But, to your point, if these offerings are out there and are not solving the issue, then why aren't they? Is it because they are still too expensive? (This may be something to investigate if you take this opportunity forward.) Or is there another underlying issue? (Perhaps our minds tell us we want to eat healthy, but our appetites tell us we do not?)
