Assignment 21A - Reading Reflection No. 2

The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users, Guy Kawasaki

For this assignment I picked the  The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users, Guy Kawasaki, I picked this book because I thought it was written by Robert Kiyosaki, which is someone I enjoy reading, my disappointment was that it was not Robert Kiyosaki but Guy Kawasaki; however, the booked turned out to be an easy reading book and definitely had some value to add.

The book format is like a combination of over 100 practical tips of dos and don'ts to treat your social media presence like a business and use a bottom-top approach to get the attention your brand is seeking.

The way this book connects with and enhance with what we are learning in ENT3003 is that today in the business world having an online image is vital and can be the differentiation from a successful business and a failed one. Having a professional image and engagement is major. Since we have a blog for this class, this book gives us advice of how to improve it and make it more professional and have more engagement from the audience.

If I were to design and excercise based on the content of this book for our class, I would ask the students to create a post in one of their social medias to enhance the followers on another platform. For example, a post on facebook asking his followers to follow on instagram and achieve a certain amount of followers.

My biggest takeaway from this book was nothing new but is something we must keep in mind, that for us to build a solid and social media page, content is the most vital part. He says, content, content, plus content. Content is the blood of your social media, and be sure to post what your audience wants to see not what you want to create.

Please Let me know if you agree with his ideals?

  1. Hi Valtenius,
I also read this book for this assignment. While you were disappointed by the author, I was disappointed by the content. I thought the book was going to teach how to leverage social media to actually achieve a certain business goal rather than just random technical tips and tricks. I think you do however bring up a good point he makes that you should always focus on what your viewer wants to see, not what you want to share.

  2. Hey Valtenius,

I've never had the opportunity to read this b0ok and I've heard some very interesting arguments concerning the book. The way that you outlined the book makes perfect since and I can understand why it would appeal to this course. The book is essential for social media goers and businesses because thats the progression of our generation and its not going to change. Overall you did a fantastic job creating a nice summary and keeping it short and straightforward.
